  • opinion on posi options...

    Hey All,

I am in the process of rebuilding my rear end, this in all reality is just a temporary stop-gap solution until I do my LSx swap. I figure if I rebuild the rear end now, when I go to upgrade later I'll be able to make a few bucks back more on it than a blown rear end. so this is really being done on the cheap. I was planning on only doing the bare minimum rebuild wise, but every time I came to deciding what to do to the stock gov-lok posi unit (that doesn't appear to be working properly) I cringe.. so here is the predicament.. the rear end is an older rear with 26 spline axels, so that means my options are to replace the axels and carrier to 28 spline and have a lot more options.. or stick to the 26 spline axels and try to find a 26 spline carrier.. these are not as plentiful.. but I have come across 3 options on a 26 spline posi units.. and tell me what you guys think makes the most sense..

    option 1)
Detroit Locker (not sure on specifics) 26 spline series 3 carrier
Used but in like new condition
guy wants $300+ shipping, but I think I could get it for $300 shipped
    thirdgen.org

    option 2)
Eaton Detroit Tru Trac 26 spline series 3 carrier
Brand new with box with some installation stuff
guy wants $275 firm for it.. but won't ship and is 2.5 hour drive away from met
    craigslist

    option 3)
Auburn Posi HP series 26 spline series 3 carrier
    Brand new in box
guy wants $300 shipped, but can submit and offer.. could possibly get for less
    ebay

I would really like to go for option 2.. but 5 hours of driving is kind of a lot.. ugh.. I've heard mixed feelings on auburn posi units.. so that is concerning as well

if I can get a posi unit around $300 I'll have a rebuilt rear minus axels for around $550 which isn't too bad..

Option 2. Where is it located? Maybe someone from here can help you out?

I run an aftermarket Eaton TrueTrac. I do like it but it does get a little jumpy in low speed tight turns.

I have a trutrac in my 10 bolt. Let me tell you, I'd drive that 5 hours versus spend the extra dough on a unit from DTS. I spent double that for my DTS trutrac
