Menards coming to Metro Detroit

Angie and I saw the big building that is going up on M-59/Hall Road along I-94 in Chesterfield, directly next door to a Walmart Super Center, is going to be a Menards! According to Menard's website, it's the first one in the Metro Detroit area, with the closest ones being in Flint, Jackson, Lansing, or Toledo. Really surprised it's being built next door to a Walmart Super Center as you'd think that's pretty stiff competition, but hey - awesome! I've always heard people talking about Menards so I'm happy to see one is finally going up in Metro Detroit area.

Are they in any way affiliated? The Menards in Mt. Pleasant is right next door to Walmart also.

Menards sucks. We have 3 here in GR. It's the Walmart of home improvement stores.

Haha yeah admittedly when I went to Menards.com and started looking around it's nothing like what I thought it was. I always thought I heard people raving about getting odds and ends stuff from there but now I'm seeing it's just another Lowes or Home Depot...?

No, Lowes is miles ahead of Menards from a quality standpoint. Menards usually sells junk brands. At least at Lowes you can buy a quality brand.

Yup -- I've often said to myself, "Hall Road isn't a big enough of a festering clusterf*ck yet -- it doesn't have a complete collection of every big box store known to Mankind. When will the Macomb County gods right this injustice and bring us them all? We must have a Menards!"

Meh. If I can get it close to home, I'd rather bike or drive down 9 Mile to Ace. I can be in and out of Ace before I even walk in from the parking lot at Home Depot or Lowe's.

But, if it makes you happy, then I am happy for you.
