Banning all Foreign Country IP Addresses

In the coming week, I will be installing a firewall which will effectively block ranges of IP addresses which resolve to foreign countries. This should only ban anyone from a country outside of the US which I consider to be "hostile" on the internet (Korea, China, Turkey, Russia, etc).

While the method is pretty straight forward, I wanted to give everyone atleast 48 hours notice. If you find that all of the sudden you're unable to view the site or reach it at all -- please e-mail me immediately letting me know. If you go to http://www.whatsmyipaddress.com/ you will see what your IP address is and what location it resolves to. Most of you shouldn't be affected.

Got tired of all these foreign spammers registering. We've had 4-5 of them in the past three days.

Note: This will also block most proxy servers. So if for some reason you insist on viewing the site through a proxy, might want to switch to normal internet.

Go to http://www.whatsmyipaddress.com/ and see what your IP resolves to. Does it resolve to USA?

When I go there at work, it says my IP resolves to Chicago. So I think most cases you should be using a USA company and USA IP address and won't have problems.

just check your ip from that site B just listed and it'll show you

The foreign proxies are usually the ones that people use to get around being banned, to be "private" so people can't "trace back who it is" etc. Those will more than likely be banned because those almost always resolve to china or russia.

Nope can't do that. I just am tired of seeing all the spammers. The most recent member to register is a spammer. If you view their profile, they put "5100100101" or some crap as their vehicle, which entirely gives it away. If they can't even attempt to put in what looks to be legitimate information (Location, Vehicle, Name) then I ban them. Some loser registered once with the location and name as some weird stuff but had a real fbody as the vehicle. Figured screw it he can't put in the right info i'm not letting him on the site.

Ok, the site says that my IP is resolving to the Detroit area.

I think this is a great idea btw.... One less thing to worry about.
