  • Help me with shock/spring combo

I told myself that I never would lower my car because of Michigan roads and my ground effects. However I just can't get over that 4X4 look that my T/A has. So I need your opinions on a good combo. Keep in mind this is a daily driver that will see 500 miles per week on average in the summer.

I want something that will look better than stock. I was thinking about a one inch drop max if possible. It needs to feel stock, or a little better than stock on the street. I want to have a set-up that will launch decent at the track. I'm not looking for a all around suspension package because I know they don't exist. I just want a comfortable street ride that works "decent at the track" and looks nice at car shows.

I was considering the "Hose mod for the back with stock springs, or v6 springs. QA1 adjustable up front. However I was told that QA1 are bad for daily drivers.

I was looking into the koni shocks. They are really expensive but I was told they are awesome. I just don't know the difference between the double adjustable and single adjustable?

If anyone has opinions or recommendations let me know. I want to try to keep my cost around the $700-$800 range. Thats not including the cost of subframe connectors I will be getting.

For a minor drop without being too drastic go with the eibach prokit. Im not sure exactly what shocks will match perfect but that will probably be a good starting point.

I got the prokit/revalved bilsteins by slp and I like the setup a lot. When i installed slp diamond sfcs after having the springs/shocks, the sfcs really had no sotp effect. I noticed nothing with the sfcs. I am assuming the spring and shocks are doing such a good job that the body doesnt have much shock to dissapate.

Hows it feel on Michigan roads? There is a guy on LS1tech that re valves shocks for different applications. I was considering the springs you have but I was told that the rear might sag after a few years?

There is a guy over on LS1Tech who is a sponsor. His name is Sam Strano and a lot of people have got killer set ups from him lately and have nothing but good things to say. He will also revalve shocks to match what ever springs you use. This is also his website http://www.stranoparts.com/index.php

Thanks guys... I've heard of that Sam guy and will be contacting him this week. What does the front perch mod do? How far will that drop my car?

Single adjustable allows you to only adjust the compression rate of the shock ( ie: softer for drag racing, harder for cornering). Double adjustable allows you to adjust both compression and rebound. I dont recommend double adjustable for anyone unless its a full race car and/or they really know what they are doing when it comes to suspention setup as you can really screw up your car of you set rebound wrong.

I'm looking at the Koni site. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Koni setup is much like the QA1 setup where you can adjust ride height in the front by using a spanner wrench? Sam has the shocks listed for $848. Not sure if they are the single or double adjustable. I want the single adjustable because I don't think I would take full advantage of the double.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

I've been reading on LS1 tech that they are best for drag race applications, not as good for road racing, or street set ups. However I haven't done that much research. Most people swear by Koni's or Sam strano's revalve setups.

I think I'm going with the Koni setup front and rear with stock springs. should give me a 3/4 inch drop in the front and 1/2 inch in the rear. I'll keep you guys posted on what I decide after I talk with Sam strano.
