  • K&N air filter cleaning...

Is there a way to clean a K&N air filter than using their spray stuff?

Because im taking off my CAI and putting the stock one back on untill spring and want to clean the filter...

I've only ever used their cleaning kit. I'm not sure what the cleaning spray is made of. You can pick up a cleaning kit for like $10 though.

I can tell you what NOT to do (because it can't be right).
I spray mine off with a garden hose, shake it off, and go.

If you really want you can soak the filter in hot water overnight then dry it off and reoil it and go.

Go easy on the oil though, or you'll run into MAF problems.

I've done like 200 of them at work. Just buy the kit, its like 10-12 bucks.

              1. remove filter
              2. spray filter in cleaner allow to sit like 20-30min
              3. spray filter off with hose FROM THE INSIDE OUT
              4. (at work) we use compressed air to dry the filter. Once again spray from the inside out. Personally I like to shake it and then let it air dry overnight.
              5. Lightly coat the filter until it is a pink to light red color. Set aside and come back in 15 min and check to see if you may have missed any spots. If you did apply to JUST those areas.
              6. Put back on car!!!!

Simple Green works...just don't forget to re-oil it.

The oil is the important part...there's a number of ways to clean 'em.

I use simple green to clean it. VERY lightly oil it once it's dry.
