Is there much difference as far as power goes between say a 94 camaro and a 97 Camaro? Which year is the best to try and search out? I'd think the later the better because GM has more time to find/solve problems but someone was telling me the 95 cars were the best out there

Well he said the 95 is the best because it had a few years to see the problems that the LT1 had and it was the last year of the OBDI cars. I as a technician love the OBDII cars but I guess tuning late model LT1 cars is a whore and a half.

You can crank a few more horsepower out of a OBD I vs. a OBD II car when the PCM gets tuned. But the 97' LT1's were rated for 285hp over any other LT1 year which was rated for 275 hp. And you can convert a OBD II car to OBD I by buying the right PCM ( check www.madz28.com ) so I would say 97' is the best year for LT1's.
The Chevy Camaro was built with a single purpose in mind which it executes flawlessly...Going very very fast in a straight line until your hair catches on fire.

Yeah I figured the later model the better too. Where is that thread that shows all the differences between the 4th gens?

if that were true people wouldnt do OBDI conversions. For one thing you dont have to worry about cat monitors with OBD1.

This is a subject thats been beat to death of camaroz28 and like websites, the consensus is generally a 95 car for last year of OBD1 and first year of vented optis. I think they also have the hardened pushrods but im not sure.

The different HP ratings on the engines is marketing. All LT1s are gonna perform roughly the same.

              almost forgot, 93s kinda suck.

'96 was the first year for the dual cat setup and the boosted power rating of 285 HP over 275. '96 also has the fewest reported mechanical problems and '93 has the most. But none of it really matters get a 94-97 and your all set

95-97 lt1s have powered metal rods vs.the pink rods powered are much stronger also 95+ have a vented opti witch some say is better personally if you keep oil out of them they all work I think its the revised oil seal in the timming cover that made the 95-97 optis less proan to fail 94 was the only year for that casting head witch gm had a few different head castings the 94s have the most meat 96-97 have a different floor desigin this enables them to be hogged so far 96-97 would be the best pcm sequential fuel injection is nice to have down stream o2s arent hard to go around
