  • Tuning software

    Okay fellas....

I'll be putting in an LSX into the IROC this winter. What's the hot tip on tuning software? HP Tuners or EFI Live? I've done some reading on both packages....but any of you have experiance with both? Pro's and Con's?

I have tuned a few cars over the past few years using a wideband and chip burning hard/software, but that's old school TPI stuff.....can't wait to step into the new world of tuning.

Talk to Greg. He's got the setup and has done a few members cars. I believe he's using EFI Live. I just need to pay for all this wedding stuff right now then have Greg tune my car.

I was very impressed with hptuners capability. From changing firing order to fuel levels at every rpm, it seemed pretty cool.

I personally use hp tuners and like it. They now have real time tuning capabilities for the ls1 guys as well which is nice.

If you want nice software with a friendly Easy to figure out GUI and don't mind a ton of parameters to work with check into jets new Software. It use to be Tunercat and can be found here.

www.tunercat.com. good software loads of params to use and adjust and I know for a fact there is alot more comming then HP tuners has.

Ls1 edit is pathetic compared to the others out.
I have EfI live and love it

with Hp tuners if you pick a 2000 TA and say a 2002 TA you can tune any 2000 TA. and 2002
                EfI live is vin locked

As some may know, my bro blew his LS1. Somewhere in a truck right now, is the new LS6 we have coming. And its going to need to be tuned. 1998 LS1 ECU with a 2005 LS6.

There are some serious bug issues with that Real Time deal they are doing. Like the RAM not having enough clock cycles left to process vital commands. I am not sold having an excelent working knowledge of the hardware in the PCM. If you want a truly stand alone affair type deal that is REAL time then look at www.moates.net Roadrunner LS1 pcms. It has an external peice of hardware that is installed into the PCM. Tunercat and EFI live both have hardware/software to work with it and it doesn't stress the processor and Ram out trying to exectue more code than it is able to process.

Thanks Sean for the info...I had read about the realtime thing being a bit much on the RAM. Moates stuff is something I might look into, I have been using his other (OBD1) stuff for a couple years now without issues. WHat's with this HP Autotune coming out? Probably buggy too I would imagine?

wouldn't trust it.AF function will be vary wide in a large cam application IE observed AFR with a wideband on a big cam car might look like 17-19:1 with a wideband but becuase of the overlap cycle it might really be 14:1 just you won;t be able to see it. So without an AFr reference table to determine mean best spark and then fueling based on MAF quantity vs fuel dispensed it will be messy at best.
