What's it cost to run this site anyways? I was wondering how you manage with all the post-whores on the board!

I pay $15 a month right now, which isn't bad.. the worst part is that coming up in December the 1 year lease on the VBulletin software is up, so it'll be time to either shell the $160 out of my pocket to "own" the software or do another 1 year $85 lease until we get more sponsors. Not to mention that I'm planning on contracting a PHP programmer to create an add-on for the site that I'd like created.

I never got into the web programming stuff, otherwise I could try to help you out. My degree is actually in COBOL programming..if you even know what that is!

of course I know what Cobol is. It was the language with the highest in demand for programmers around Y2K because all the old programs were made in Cobol and no one knew it anymore to reprogram the applications to be Y2k compliant.

I hated figuring out all the old lousy programming so I gave it up after a few months of real world work. I guess there's supposed to be a growing demand again since all the old guys are retiring and no one knows how to program with it anymore! I still hate programming in it!

yeah. I used to make entire websites in Notepad. Just hand typing all the HTML code out, not using editors at all. Then I went to WYSIWYG...

...now I stick to PHPNuke or the like for websites (IE -- I just click install and BAM! i have a website).

I happen to be a PHP / SQL web developer.

I've got 5 years under my belt, although... I don't really have much to show for it. as in, over the last year, the sites that i had made, or forums that I had modified, have died or expired.

I'm waiting for tomorrow's check to come from work, so I can get my personal website back up and show what I have to offer to potential clients, however, it's not payday yet.

Codeing HTML in notepad was fun. for a while I refused to use any form of syntax highlighting for PHP as well.. Untill I started to get rather advanced and started having thousand plus lines of code... Then finding a missing ; was a lot easier with syntax highlighting, so I gave in.

About the google ads, If you read their TOS agreement, you'll see that you're not alowed to put them under "sponsors" So you might want to put them in their own little box.

Also, you should get a banner, instead of a skyscraper, for the bottom sponsor's box. It would just make it look cleaner. *Gotta remember, I'm a webdeveloper, I notice little things like this... sorry *

Well, the problem that we have is that the bottom sponsors box is actually the same box as the one on the right, but it was interfering with the site's look, so I didn't put the code to have the box on the right... I might change it back though now that we have the skyscrapper because you're right it's huge.

I like the new ads placement. Fits nice, you should try styling it though, so that it matches the site's theme.

People spend more time looking at them, when they think they're apart of the site.

On my old website, I was generating over $200 a month of google ads.
It's an effective spot to place them, but they need to be colored. If you have any questions on how to do it, let me know. I'm more then willing to help *I've been useing adsense for over 3 years now*
