  • squeeking breaks...

my breaks are squeeking and idk if its the rotors, pads or the silver metal clips you put in when u change ur breaks...

they are the napa replacement breaks which was my first mistake, but i bought new pads cause they were glazed and we but anticeze (or however u spell it) on the clips that come with the new pads and after about 75 miles they started squeeking again...

any ideas need help cause i really odn't want to spend money on new breaks right now...

and how do u guys stop ur breaks from rusting??? paint???

When brakes are wearing, they will begin to squeak in reverse first, as the wear indicators are located on the leading edge of the pad when in reverse. However, it sounds like your brakes are new, which is either the high metalic content of the pads or the pads vibrating against the piston(s). You can place some of the "magic goo" behind the pads to try to prevent this. The "magic goo" is sold in those little packets at like Auto Zone, etc. Anti-seize is for bolts and is supposed to not allow them to seize or rust in the threads, not for noise suppression that I know of.

Rusting? are your rotors rusting? they will often get a rust glaze when parked and wet, it will wear off once you apply your brakes, if you're talking about the rest of the rotor... well possibly paint will help.

unfortunatly this seems to be a common problem with many f-bodys/corvettes. I had the same problem on my 99 WS.6 with new break pads. I took them off, cleaned up, put the brake quiet or "magic goo" as stated above..and still no luck. I went out and purchased some "Hawk" pads. Never had a problem since. Hawk pads are said to be the best of the best when it comes to our cars...you'll pay a price for it though. I would take them off and try some of the brake quiet first..see how that works for you. good luck.

Where do you get "Hawk" pads? Are they Firehawk pads? Sorry, never heard of them.

          hawk HPS
summit. thunderracing.com and many others sell them.. If you want something cheap just go buy the lowest cost parts at the local store. They don't last long due to the lack of metalic content but they won't make any noise like the lifetime warranty stuff

my first mistake was buyign the napa shit and idk what do do now cause my rotors have slight groves in them and uc an see the pads are glazed and the rotors are a little shiny too

u can buy the hawk hps at murrays now and i think thats what im gonna get

i just odn't know if i should put new rotors on too but the basically brand new except i had them turned just to expose a new surface when i put the new pads and and 75 or so miles later they started squeeking again

where r u putting the magic go?? on at

back of the pads. Its not really magic goo..its brake quiet. They usually sell the little packets up by the registers.

there is some tacky stuff on there...

the thing im thinkin it might be if its not the pads is the silver metal clips that come iwth the install kit.... i think those could be making the noise cause they don't seem to fit tight

I'm having the same problem with my new rear pads... I changed to ceramics up front for the same reason... so now its gonna get ceramics all around.
