3.73's and a big stall would be perfect. I have heard of a lot of people that went from 2.73's to 3.42's and weren't happy. Just my .02

Personally I'd look into a bigger stall also w/ that 383, but that's just me.

What rpm would you be turning with stock tires with each gear? I know there is a web site that does gears, rpm's, speed, tire size etc. cant remember what it is though. I am still torn between 3.42's and 3.73's. I have 2.73's now so anything would be an improvement right? I really wish my car was a stick, it would be a no brainer. Not sure why GM even offers auto transmissions in anything. the first car i learned to drive was a stick. But thats another rant i wont get into, lol. I think i am leaning towards 3.42 gears to keep the rpms down on the expressway but i will continue to change my mind untill i buy a set. Didnt the SS come with 3.23's? or could you get taller gears?
