Why don't you guys meet at M-53 and M-59 and that way you can take M-59/Hall Rd straight across to where the Northern Oakland guys are meeting up? ***DISCLAIMER THOUGH: NORTHERN OAKLAND GANG IS TALKING ABOUT LEAVING AT 8:15AM***

We could meet in that church/school parking lot on Van Dyke just north of Hall on the east side of the road. I'm in regardless but lets stop beating around the bush and call this what it is already.....A race to the M&G:-D

First we need to get a meeting spot and time, than determine a route. But I think we could all swing by that area to meet up. Have you guys determined a meeting place yet?

MunsterZ28

im in no matter where the spot is, but what about like the the best buy/sams club parking lot at m59 and m53 its a big lot we can all meet up at and theres a traffic light so when we leave no one gets stuck right off the get go.

Mound to 696 to Kensington wouldn't be a bad route.

DETROITMUSCLE

Thats the route we took last year and it was a good drive IMO thats what I figured we would do again but if were gonna stop along the way and pick up some more peeps lets do it then its a one day event better make it eventful :)

I also think that Lot at M-59 and M53 by the Salvation Army is a good place as well because we can fit all of us, there is a light, and also bathrooms and food if people need to grab anything.

last year we all met at 12 and woodward in the shrine (big ass church) parking lot. but we could head down closer to 696 to meet you guys. mike cambell are you coming with this group? i know kolin has your number. but you could call us a few min before you get to woodward and we could just get on 696 and cruise slow until you guys get to us. could work. cause there's really no big parking lots down by 696 and traffic and the traffic routes down there would suck for trying to get a lot of people orgnaized.

Z28ISGR8
February 2nd, 2009, 12:34 PM
The Shelby Twp crew could meet up near Hall and Van Dyke at that church parking lot, get situated, and that cruise down to 12 and Woodward and meet up with you guys. Anybody have any objections to that????

Park opens earlier than you guys will be there :nana: Like 6am or 7am. I usually get there around 7-7:30 so I always tell everyone anytime after 8am is fine for starting to arrive. Most people usually start arriving between 9am and 10:30am.

From my house, it normally takes me about an hour to get to Angie's house. Kensington is about 20 minutes further west.

You're not going to get much freeway driving either way, Mike. If you take I-696 it's down to one lane (and might even be entirely closed at an exit like they've been doing lately) so you're not gaining much freeway time by going I-696.

Have you guys decided on a route for sure yet? Like I said earlier, if you take I-696, you're likely to encounter sections that might be down to one lane due to the construction - but I'm not sure on that. I've taken the M-59 route twice and it's actually a pretty nice route.

Basically, if you go 696 you're going all the way down then west and then back up a few miles. If you take M-59 you're pretty much going directly west and then a few miles down. Either way will work, just trying to let you guys know the options available to get there since I know it's not the most "conveniently direct" place to get to.

DETROITMUSCLE
May 15th, 2009, 02:54 PM
I thought we were gonna take M-59 to avoid traffic backups because those are an easy way to seperate a group of cars. Either way we will still get there so its not a big deal to me.

sounds great, I probably will go earlier to help B get set up, so won't be there for the caravan. Kinda bummed because the caravan is a good part of the whole day!

Well, we're less than a week away. Shall we take a head count on the Shelby Township Caravan?

I'm going to do my best to make it.

Out of curiosity and just for the hell of it, if replying, change the total as you reply.

To all of the folks that participated in the Shelby ride to Milford....that was really special. My 12 year old son was really getting into it. I may have started something bad here....not sure yet. Everyone got there, no tickets, life is good. We even had time for a stop at a church to get some early morning religion... ( that just made the ride a little longer and better!!)

Thanks!!

It was a cool sight seeing the line of car behind me! Sorry about the little detour, next time I will make sure my navigator is more prepared! lol She did make up for it by taking some pics at the stop light and through the rear view mirror going around some curves. I don't have the cable with me to hook up my camera at home, so I will post them when I get back up to school tomorrow.

Hey Mike (QuickLT1WS6),

I may have given you some bad info on how to get back to 696. Going south from Bakers takes you to 96.. you have to go east to find 696. If it caused you any grief I am really sorry. Since you posted , I assume you did get home...;-)

Did you guys pass over the dirt section on Milford rd? Kinda noticed when I was turned the wrong way and saw you guys, then found another 4th gen and followed him over pavement and still got there like 10mins before you guys. Guessing you took it slow over the dirt.

Anybody else enjoy that chicane under the bridge?

No we didn't. As soon as our point man saw the dirt and hit the skidders there was an accordion effect; no casualties.

How was the cruise over using M59? Was it alright or were there any issues? What dirt section are you guys referring to?

The cruise over M-59 was OK except for all of the traffic lights; but that was expected. It's as if they intentionally time them that way, so you can soak up all of the surrounding business and possibly patronize them.

We missed the right turn at West Huron Street and if you continue on, it turns into a dirt road.

Ohhh - yeah the jog isn't well pointed out. Our first time we turned from the lane to go straight at the last minute when we realized we were suppose to turn.

On my map it was called GM Road, not Huron Street, so we missed that turn. Then shortly after that the road was going to turn to dirt so I had a WTF moment and pulled in to the church right before. Just a minor detour, but Mike still managed to get some pics of it! lol
