  • So why are GTP's fast?

    Okay,

I want to know how come GTP's are so much faster than comparable SC Firebirds or Camaros?

    Like this 12 second GTP...

    or this 13 second GTP...

So if I go through the trouble of buying an M90 and such, do the necessary choppin and welding to fit the top end off a GTP on an fbody than I can have a quick Fbody too?

i guess one aspect of it is that a GTP is not just a 3800 that has been supercharged, one of the only things a normal 3800 shares with a GTP motor is the block, if you are looking to do some upgrades to your 3800 http://www.zzperformance.com/ is a great place to start

its a waste of money to put a supercharger on a 3800 in a fbody.. thus the reason i traded off my camaro

its cheaper to just buy a v8 rather then dump thousands into making a 3800 in a fbody quick

I have told many people this, It's not worth it, To much BS to play with, the Coolant lines needs to be re routed, and there needs to be a Custom fab'd L elbow for the throttle body for it to work

But if you want to try it knock yourself out

you would run the same times as if you went with a powerdyne or procharger setup.

If you don't own a machine shop it is not really worth it for the 40-60hp gain.

Is that why you went the N/A route?

I'm not trying to be the fastest guy out there. I just want a relatively quick car that will turn heads. SC's and TC's tend to do that.

what it takes to turn heads varies, set goals for your car 1/4 times/dyno and shoot for those

Well I would be happy with a high 12, low 13 second 1/4 mile car. Realistically if I could keep up with the LT1 guys I would be happy.

Ive seen some pretty outrageous F bodies on Firebird V6, but, again, why invest into what others are trying. Yes, oh yeah, they are awesome, but there's money, time, machining, re-engineering, fitting, fabbing and all that, when you could probably find an LS car for half the price and less money to make insane. The few times I had the available parking lot space to really dig into LS F bodies, I've been very impressed. But to each their own. When it all comes down, every man has a dream of his own and it's up to no one to tell him which way to go. With cars, you almost always have to follow your heart.

alot of na 3800 fwd are doing "top swaps" replacing the heads, intake and supercharger with one of a supercharged 3800, they had great results the s/c 3800 is a 8:1 motor with 9psi stock with a 3.8 pulley, now u put the same intake head combo on a motor that is 9:1 your gonna have ALOT more power, but you also have to have other things done better flowing exhaust and such. over in ausstrailia they have a supercharged 3800 rwd holden, u might want to check into finder a used blower housing off one of those if you planned on going through with it, http://v6supercharged.com.au/fame.asp
