  • FINALLY ready for some Firebird Action!!

Well, I figured that as the Photographer for the Eastern Chapter of the Michigan Firebird Club, I should at least have a decent camera. . .

I've been looking for quite some time, and Ben actually found a GREAT deal on a new camera, so I went ahead and bought it. . .

It's a Pentax K110D. 6.1MP Digital SLR. It's more camera than I really need, and the pictures it takes are AMAZING compared to the Kodak I've been using. I was out messing around with it earlier, and I'm REALLY impressed.

That's just a few pics, I'll get more when I get my car cleaned out and when I take Phoenix out again, but I think these pics show how clear the pics are. Oh, these pics were shrunk by PhotoBucket, the originals are MUCH bigger.

        Excellent pictures!

You can actually tell exactly how dirty your car is!

I'm just kidding. But you should wash it.

        Sweet Camara.

Now, the ultimate test. Take a picture of the camera without using anything reflective.

pretty nice! I'm not happy with my camera anymore, it takes too much work to get a clear shot anymore. The "Auto" sucks horribly, everything comes out grainy.

Check out The Photo Forum. www.thephotoforum.com They have a lot of great information, including tutorials on using all of the neat features of different cameras. I've been working my way away from "Auto" mode, trying out full manual mode is more fun anyway. I won't run it that way at car shows or anything, just because you need to be dead on or you can over/underexpose pictures, use the wrong aperture setting and you can destroy the quality of an image, wrong shutter setting and you'll get images that are too dark/light or blurry. Most cameras basically use pre-programmed settings for determining all of the settings when taking pictures, IMO, you can get better results by learning the craft and altering the settings so they are optimum for the individual situation. Sure, it will be frustrating not getting very many good pics now, but once you get better at it, you'll really be impressed by the image quality.

              B, I forgot, are you running a DSLR or a P&S?

Technically a P&S. Olympus D610. It has a full manual mode for adjusting exposure and aperature, though. I used full manual mode at Superfest 2007, but I have strayed from using manual mode lately. I think I just need to go back to using it.

Yeah, I'm having some trouble getting used to making all of the changes and settings and such "on the fly" with this camera, I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I just need to practice some more with it, I think.

OMG, you have no clue. This camera is a better photographer than I am.

I've become quite involved over on The Photo Forum, and these pics are the bottom of the barrel compared to some of the stuff those guys are producing.

You think these are great? Wait until tomorrow after I finish detailing an '08 Dodge Ram "Big Horn" Edition and buy a tripod. . . I'm experimenting with night pics tomorrow, and I'm hoping to get some nice ones of the truck and the Firebird. . . Both are red, both are shiny, and both will be freshly detailed.

Customer backed out last minute, his wife had to use the truck to haul some stuff for her mother. I'll be detailing it next week after the weather breaks and the rain is gone for a while. . .
