  • pics of rear of motor

pulled my trans yesterday to check the rear main seal as im leaving oil all over the place, including my driveway, garage, underside of my car and whoever is following me (gold camaro on the way back to GR). it just didnt seem like it was that bad, but the only time i seen smoke was when id get on it. and the smoke was from the oil landing on my exhaust, because even its coated pretty good with oil. heres the pic before i removed the rear cover.

if you want one with the rear cover off, i can do that pretty easy

where the leak is , is usually clean. look at the pass side. It looks wet all the way up to the head. check the oil sender and the pass valve cover
I was gonna mention this yesterday when you posted the other pics

you can lower the pan enough to get the gasket off but without jacking the motor up i dont think u can get the pan all the way off

                  edit*

when i put my valve covers on my pass side gasket slipped out in the back and the way it was leaking made it look like a rear main, i sat under the car with it running for like 10 mins till i figured it out

def check the side of the block like larry said

on the rear cover gasket some people put a dab of rtv at where it meets the oil pan gasket for better sealing

actually after getting it off the ground and wiping it down the best i could, i did start it and got under it to see if i could see something leaking. nothing. thats why i wonder if its only when the car is under a load that its leaking.

yeah but the stock gasket is held on by 2 rivits you can still rip the old gasket off but just grabe some small cutting pliers to cut the tops off so the new gasket sits flush flat on the pan

sounds hard but you'll see how simple it is if you do it.

you could rev the motor to build more oil pressure to see if it leaks that way incase you didn't

make sure u put the rear cover on before you bolt the oil pan on, sounds dumb but some people do it differently and the pan has to be centered
