  • Is this what I need for my Rear?

I went to murrays and this is what the gentlemen said i needed
3 quarts of the 80w 90 (how much should i put in it?)
    some slip additive
and to just seal it back up with the blue RTV

I just want to open up my new rear and check it out before i put it on and get new gear lube in it so its all set and ready to go.

    Thank-you

      perfect.
      3 quarts is a lot.
Yours will take about 1 and a half.
Just fill it to the top of the fill hole and your good to go.

Don't really need a gasket with the RTV you have.

they make a nifty little pump for gear lube and i want one. i hate filling up rear axles by hand. if you have a big one your hand hurts when your done

          thanks guys.

when i took my diff cover off my 10 bolt there was only RTV no gasket and the guy at murrays said rtv alone is fine.

          thanks

from squezzing 1.5 quarts of 80 weight gear oil out of a 1/4 inch hole
edit: if you already bought the rtv nvm but next time your better off with a gasket. the gasket will fail eventuly but if you don't rtv it right you have to take it off and do it again and then you have to buy new fluid

nope you can make it worse with both some times your better off with just a gasket. rtv will save you in a pich so its good to have it around. like if you have a valve cover gasket leaking or something stupid like that
