  • New rear end is in!

I finally got my new rear end in! (thx again mike for the rear) All I can say is wow, really seemed to wake the car up! Dont really notice any difference on the highway but around the city the car just seems to have so much more get up and go and doesnt seem to be struggling as much.

The 1 - 2 shift is soooo much better dont seem to loose half the rpms as I did before keeps it right in the powerband! No more 1 wheels peels when taking off, and I discovered something new today, wheel hop. Never really understood it or how it happens, but apparently it does, lol. (anyone care to explain how it happens?)

Now Im just waiting on the computer, should be here tomorrow, im getting excited!

Does anyone know what year they went from the eaton(?) posi to the zexel torsen diff?

    O, BTW, 3.42's w/lsd > open 3.08's !

      awesome, hope my walkthrough helped.

wheelhop... yea... fun stuff It happens because your tires are now breaking free (and grabbing) in synchronization. This sends pulsations through everything, and with the tolerances of stock suspension... they tend to get multiplied. If its a big deal look into getting tubular LCAs and a torque arm.

If you are lowered, relocation brackets are a must for combatting wheel hop.

Yea, about that, I completely forgot my camera, I did it in my grandmas garage, my grandpa had EVERY tool imaginable, plumed hardlines for airtools everywhere, he even put a pit in the garage himself, with ledges for tools, had built in lights and ladder, very cool, Ill post up some pics of the garage next time im over there. But I have a few on my Blackberry ill upload tomorrow.

Joel the walk through was a god send, did it in the order you recommended and it went of with out a hitch. I completely forgot to get PB blaster so it only soaked for about 2 hours but I was able to get every bolt out no problem, including the lca bolts. I did all of them but the torque arm with a 8 in long 3/8s ratchet. The only thing I had an issue with was unbolting the swaybar from the car, I wasnt sure if I was supposed to or not but couldnt find a way to get the rear out otherwise but anywho I broke an endlink but advance auto had it in stock for 11 bucks. So all went well.

Im not lowered, and really the wheel hop is not a big deal (atleast not until I get a converter, im thinking 3k stall), was just curious what it was and what caused it.

Total estimated time for project: 3ish hours.
Actual time from when the car entered the garage to when it pulled out: 6 hours 12 minutes, and I had 1 other person helping me, lol.

sounds like it went pretty smoothly for you then... man i spent 6 hours on my LCA bolts alone last fall... learned my lesson LOL

edit: yea i completely forgot about that sway bar i had trouble with that too, especially getting it back in. Just had to be creative about which bolts i tightened first and stuff like that.

Good deal on he install of your rearend. If your getting wheel hop the first thing your going to want to look at is getting lower control arm relocation brackets. You do not want any wheel hop on a stock rearend! The shock will tear them up. I would also recommend that you look into putting a girdle cover on that rearend to help hold it together. Good Luck.

Im not too terribly worried about it, especially since its just a 6, but when/if I get a new converter, then ill definitely be getting some suspension upgrades.

a LOT depends on the type of tire and the surface of the road too. Sometimes my car will smoothly lay down rubber like it was born to do that, and other times it wants to hop like a nomad, it depends on a lot of factors
