  • Thinking of getting 2460-!HKR Hooker Headers

    sorry for the long post.

A little backround on my car. 1974 CMJ 350 from a police impalla. TPI setup is now on it. Has the stock 86 305 Exhaust Manifold on it. The rest of the exhaust does not look stock. Cat was deleted and a bent piece of exhaust is in its place. The exhaust tube looks like it was too big to bend so it was crimped bent.( using a clamp to bend it) I don't think have the stock y-pipe on it either. Also from the y-pipe back my exhaust is welded as one piece. Anyway Since I have no AIR pump or cat I want to get compitition headers. The 2460-1HKR Hooker headers look like a great deal. The only problem is can I somehow make them match up to the y-pipe thats on my car already? I don't wont to by the y-pipe for the hooker headers because it is only a 2.5 inch y-pipe all the way through. That and I would have to replace my entire exhaust then too.

These headers are only $368.00 too

Why not just step up the long tube Super Comps, and have a shop bend you up a y-pipe to connect to your exhaust?

      Are long tubes better?
I also would like to have shorties in case my starter goes out agian. Since my y-pipe is welded to my exaust as one piece it is not easy to get my starter out. I have to drop the exhaust up front to get enough clearance. Wouldn't the long tubes get in the way?
Also don't long tubes make it very difficult to get to your spark plugs?

My opinion is, yes long tubes are the way to go. You will see better gains with them. Spark plugs will be the same with shorties vs the lung tubes.
The starter, thats something you will need to decide.
The super comps are more expensive, but thats the way I would go.

Ive been doing some research and found that ground clearance can be an issue. I already can't pull my camaro into some drives because it would scrape bottom. That an for a mild car like mine the power difference would not be that significant would it? How much mods have to be done to the engine to see a significant gain in power with long tubes that justify the cost of them?

Hooker long tubes are ridiculously low....way lower than they need to be. I had them on my car for a few years and hated them......I was always seeing sparks in my rear view mirror. Hedmen makes a long tube that is not as low but they are 1 5/8 primaries vs. the 1 3/4 on the Hookers.

On my LS1 I am using Stainless works long tubes and they are the freaking bomb....lots of ground clearence and they are 1 3/4 primaries.
