  • MiFBody establishes a set of Forum Rules

Alright guys, as you probably have already noticed, we have established a set of forum rules. It was recently a topic of discussion amongst the staff and member base that it's hard to uphold a set of rules when a set of rules hasn't actually been established. The staff and I have come up with a list of rules which we feel are almost 100% basic common knowledge and shouldn't be hard to adhere to. Likewise, don't feel like we're starting to come down on everyone. Everything is going to go as normal, it's just that if someone really goes overboard on breaking a rule, we now actually have rules to reference when saying "Hey... go read the rules.. specifically #X.."

That said, if you haven't had to already, below is the new Michigan FBody set of rules.

    1. Expletives
Expletives are allowed to some extent, but it is left to the user to use best judgment when swearing. As a car forum, we do understand some things get members heated enough about their own vehicle to use vulgarity. If you feel you must swear to get your point across, please censor your language appropriately so as to not be overly offensive. (IE: S***, B****, Etc.) Swearing at other members, or directing an expletive at a member's vehicle, is not welcome. Please try to keep expletives to a minimum, and obviously some expletives hold more meaning than others. Please use your best judgment when typing a thread, post, or response -- one's own reputation can be tarnished by excessive vulgarity.
    2. Spamming
Spamming or business advertisements by businesses who do not sponsor mifbody.com is not allowed. Threads or PMs determined to be "spam" will be deleted or forwarded to the staff. This type of posting could possibly result with privileges to our board restricted or denied without notice. Lottery schemes being advertised on this board are considered Spam. Excessive advertisement of other forums is also considered spam, and will be dealt with accordingly. If you are interested in sponsoring mifbody.com, please send inquiries to meissen@mifbody.com To offer added support to our Sponsors, we would ask that you refrain from recommending non-sponsor businesses, products, or services that are in direct competition to our Sponsors in your thread replies. If you wish to offer another source to our Members, please use the PM or e-mail option to give the information to our Members in a private manner. We will remove information in threads that will reduce revenue for our Sponsors. Soliciting for Members of this site to go and join another site is also considered a form of Spam. Mentioning another site for reference or as an information source is acceptable.
    3. Flames or derogatory insults
Flames or derogatory insults are strictly against the rules. If you disagree with another member's point of view, do so in a mature and civil manner. If someone posts to discuss their personal problems or seek help from other forum members, please do not respond unless you have something positive or helpful to add. If you find yourself being flamed or insulted by another member, please do not dignify that person with a response. Notify a moderator and let us handle it. If you feel you must respond to a flame or insult directly, please do NOT do so on the board. Use private messages or e-mail.
Threating another member is also against the rules.
Suggestion: If you are particularly irritated by another member's posting habits and are constantly fighting the urge to flame them, you can click on that person's profile, and select "Add to ignore list." This will make that person's posts invisible to you.
    4. Racist or sexist
Threads or replies promoting or expressing racist or sexist views will not be tolerated.
    5. Porn
Porn is not welcomed here. Pictures showing nudity are ONLY allowed in our NWS Forum and the picture is at worst, "R-rated". "X-rated" pictures, sites, or links are and will remain strictly against the rules. To view the NWS Forum, you must be a member of the "Perverts" group. To join this group, you must "Opt-In" at Group Memberships
    6. Avatars and Signatures
The same rules that apply to your posts apply to your signatures and avatars. Please keep this in mind when selecting your avatar or signature. Respectfully, the staff will issue a warning before taking appropriate action unless the avatar or signature is so obscene that immediate action must be taken. If asked by a staff member to change your avatar or signature, please do so in a mature fashion. If the request is not responded to within 48 hours, the staff member who issued the warning will change your avatar or signature respectfully.
    7. "Free posts"
"Free posts", or posting solely for the purpose of boosting your post count, is only welcome to some extent. Please do not overly advertise that you're just posting to post (IE: "+1" or "IBTL"). We are a very social website and the entire purpose of the site is to socialize. Therefore, threads about post count achievements are allowed, but there's a fine line between blatantly free posting on every single thread just to raise one's post count and posting in the threads that are meant for free posting (post count acheivements, word association, games, etc).
    8. Posting Topics
Please post your topics in the most appropriate forum (i.e., tech threads only in tech forums). If you post a thread that would be more appropriate in another forum, a moderator will move it for you. However, please do not rely on the moderators to automatically do this for you. Use your judgment to determine which forum best suits your topic. If you can not find a forum suitable, please post the thread in the Pit.
    9. Controversial topics
Controversial topics, such as religion, abortion, retardation, racism, etc., Although these topics usually start out civilly enough, experience has shown that these sort of topics invariably disintegrate into all out flame wars and heated arguments. A sub forum has been created in The Pit which allows political discussions and controversial topics. Please post any threads of this sort there. Any discussion posted there must remain civil and must remain a discussion or a debate. Please do not post to turn it into a flame war or heated argument. When the thread has reached this stage, it will be locked.
    10. Drugs/narcotics
Threads/replies promoting illicit drugs/narcotics will not be allowed.
    11. Illegal/unethical
Threads/replies encouraging other illegal/unethical action (like "Best way to kill neighbor's dog?") will not be allowed.
    12. "Poop" threads
"Poop" threads, or similarly immature and offensive topics (graphic sex or sexual acts) will not be allowed.
    13. "Trolling"
"Trolling", or makings posts with the sole intention of creating problems on the forums is obviously against the forum guidelines. This includes registering an alternate ID for the sole purpose of creating problems on the forums. "Troll ID's" will be locked immediately and permanently, and can be locked without notification to the offender. Members are allowed one user account.
    14. Threads/replies
Threads/replies attacking mifbody.com policies will not be allowed. We do, however, encourage open discussion and constructive criticism. If you feel that you have suggestions to add to the site, please post them respectfully. Do not do so in a way which belittles the hard work the entire staff has done in the past to bring us to where we are today.
    15. “Cop bashing”
Persistent or purposeful “cop bashing” is not allowed. Referring to a LEO, cop, policeman, etc is appropriate but unproven defamatory remarks or titles (such as "pig") will not be tolerated. Law enforcement agencies do browse these sites, and as such we want to be seen as a respectful site.
    16. Malicious or harmful URL links
Any member of the site that posts malicious or harmful URL links that cause:
      1. other Member’s PCs to become locked or have to be rebooted in order for the PC to regain functionality
      2. “screaming”, (cannot be viewed safely for content or sound at work)
Will lose posting privileges for 3 days. A repeat offender may be permanently banned from the board.
    17. Sponsors bashing
Our paying Sponsors deserve respect and restraint. Attacking a sponsor on the board is strictly prohibited. If you have a complaint with a sponsor, you may send the information directly to an Administrators and it will be passed directly to the Sponsor for action or resolution. If you do post on the board about a specific problem involving a sponsor, please remain calm and state the facts. Do not let emotion cloud the issue at hand. When your thread is read by a moderator, the moderator will do the following:
      1. Lock the thread and place a copy of the thread in the Moderator Forum. This forum is not visible to the members but I assure you it does exist.
      2. Reply to the locked thread that (A) has taken place.[/b]
      3. The moderator or Administrator will update the locked thread with the response from the Sponsor OR the Sponsor will contact you directly.

We really hope situations can be resolved off-line but we will not prohibit a statement of fact BUT we will control the thread so as to stop the “Hate” or “Me too” replies these threads often generate. If the staff realize there is an overall problem with a sponsor on the site, the administrator (Meissen) will post about it in an informative fashion as to not only show respect to the sponsor, but to also inform the community about the issues at hand.
    18. Moderator or Administrator bashing
Posting a thread or reply to question or criticize moderator or administrator actions is not appropriate in a public forum. Please utilize the board's Private Message function, or e-mail, if you wish to discuss these issues. As long as you bring up your concerns maturely and civilly to the moderator or administrator in question, we will do our best to address your concerns fairly and promptly.
Here are the "Do's" and "Dont's" of addressing your concerns to moderators or administrators:
"Do" be civil and polite. Bring up your concerns in a mature and respectful manner. If you are contacting us because you violated forum guidelines, be adult enough to admit your mistake. If your ID has been locked for some reason, talking politely to us about it in private, via e-mail or private message, can get your ID reinstated in many cases.
"Don't" be rude and immature. Do not post a thread calling the moderator or administrator out. Do not troll other threads bashing the moderator's decision.
    19. CarFax Reports
CarFax is a great site which provides useful information for people interested in purchasing a new or used vehicle. They also offer a package which allows unlimited VIN searches for one month at a low cost. While the staff appreciates the gesture of offering this service to other members of the board, it is respectfully asked that members do not solicit their ability to run CarFax reports for other members. It is also asked that members do not request someone to run a report for them. CarFax has in the past taken action against members of the site for soliciting their CarFax account to the general public.
    20. F-Body Segregation
Last, but certainly not least, we are an FBody website. We are a website for Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts. We are a website for 1st Generation, 2nd Generation, 3rd Generation, 4th Generation and soon to be 5th generation enthusiasts. We are a website for v6 Camaro and Firebirds, we are a website for v8 Camaro and Firebirds. We are even a website for I6 or other rare configuration Camaro and Firebirds. As such, continuously flaming or bashing a specific generation, model, engine, etc which another member owns is not welcome. We are here to enjoy the FBody as a whole, not be close minded to only a select few.

I'm glad this was included. I've seen it happen a few times to some of the other sponsors on here.
