    Hey Everybody,

Just a little story from late last week. I started hearing a repetative noise that followed wheel rotation coming from the passenger side rear. My suspicion was wheel bearing, and I was right. The complication was that the failing bearing had chewed into the axel. I asked around and I agreed that it'd be bad to just replace the bearing. Well, I'm driving around on new rear bearings, seals, and a new pass axel. Now I have a good excuse to "field test" the new parts. Bummer, that it never is just one thing that seems to go. However, I suppose it's good that I caught it before catastrophic failure.

Yeah, wheel bearings can be a PITA...I've had a couple go bad on a few vehicles.

Funny...when it's been a warranty repair, there's nothing wrong with the axles...when I had to pay for it, the axle was bad too.

    Coincidence?

can u give me more info on some of your symptoms from the bearings.. i believe ive narrowed my problem down to that area.. they told me to replace the whole pass wheel hub and bearing assembly.. 250 for part 60 labor.. much? i want to make sure this is what the problem is before i go around replacing everything. i noticed on the highway around 70-80 when my wheel is turned slightly to the left i will hear a repetative rubbing sound

If your bearings are bad you can tell it sounds like something is grinding in the car like if one of your calipar pistons are not goin back in and your pads are grindin on the rotors

That's a pretty good description. I was hearing a very faint repetitive metalic-like scraping sound. I did check the brakes first for something obvious, but everything looked and felt fine. It got louder over the course of a week or so, and it was particularly noticable at highway speeds (and above).

mine was making the same noise. i replaced the bearing and seal, didnt notice a problem with the axle, but also wasnt intenionally looking. i still have the noise, possibly even worse now. should have checked the axle.
