Hey dudes. My car has a loud thump when I get on it pretty good going from first to second gear. It's a 4L60E. I'm not sure which one is the cause, but I am assuming the transmission mounts rather than the TA bushing. Any recommendations on brands? I was considering going with a stock LS1 trans mount, I heard they hold up well without the vibration of the polyurethanes. I have heard mixed reviews about the poly trans mounts, but some say its no problem if you leave the plate off that comes with the mount. I was looking into an Energy, Prothane, or GM Performance mount from Jeg's/Summit. Any recommendations, experiences, tips, etc. that would make swapping the mount/bushing out easier?

i used an LS1 mount on my car, had a poly before. the LS1 has more slop up-and-down, but is just as solid side to side as the poly. im happy with it. ...of course the slop is more of a factor when you have a 6 speed. As for the swap. its really pretty straight forward, theres not much to it. you jack up the trans to take the weight off of it, unbolt it, and it comes out. reinstallation is the same process backwards.-Joel

Oh nice, that's how I figured it would go after taking a look underneath and doing a bit of homework. I guess I will see how bad its ripped (if not completely) when I get it off there.
Thanks a bunch for the help.1997 Red T/A (SOLD)

definately just go with the gm perf parts one. mine was 100 bucks but i went with the exact part number for the l36 auto.
i havent heard of prothane either but i have tried the polyurethane mount and it was too much vibration, never went away either2000 Firebird A4 black hardtop

I had this exact same problem last week...
http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=10583
My tranny mount was completely ripped in half. I used a new poly mount instead of the oem replacement. I can feel the vibrations more now, but I'm guessing it still has to wear in a little.
The removal and installation was really easy. I had it up on the hoist at work and was able to use the impact on it. I guess it would be harder to do on jack stands, but now seeing how easy it was I would hesitate to do it on the ground.sigpic

the gm performance mount is on jeg's i think and its polyurethane. it is my understanding that taking the plate off will reduce or eliminate the vibration. how much vibration are we actually talking about here when running a polyurethane mount?Originally posted by 00firebird View Postdefinately just go with the gm perf parts one. i havent heard of prothane either but i have tried the polyurethane mount and it was too much vibration, never went away either1997 Red T/A (SOLD)

i think (and from what i have read) that its easy and quick to jack it up on the transmission with a block of wood for cushion to take the weight off the tranny.Originally posted by Schuby87 View PostI had this exact same problem last week...

as far as feeling the vibrations more, is it annoying or just the simple fact that it vibrates more than normal?
i think knowing i have a high quality part, especially polyurethane, combined with the fact that my transmission wont be slamming into the floor, would heavily outweigh the effects of the vibrations. how do you feel about it?1997 Red T/A (SOLD)

I dont really know what a new oem one feels like because I think that it was partially messed up when I bought the car.Originally posted by randall814 View Postas far as feeling the vibrations more, is it annoying or just the simple fact that it vibrates more than normal?

The vibrations are semi annoying. I dont really feel it if I drive like a grandma, but I can really feel it when I get on it.
I have to agree with the fact that the vibrations are fine to live with in return for having a higher quality part.sigpic
